FAQ
Direct Loan Services

How do I repay my loan?
There are several ways that you can make loan repayments:

  • In person at any VNPF branch by cash or cheque
  • Direct bank transfer
  • Mobile payment - Digicel MyCash, Vodafone M-Vatu or Vanuatu Post KwikCash

What happens if I cannot repay my loan?
All loans must be paid back, however if you are unable to repay your loan, you may choose to offset the loan amount, including interest, from your VNPF savings. VNPF will use the Certificate of Indemnity you signed to recover the money owed from your VNPF accounts. VNPF will only recover money owed by you if you fail to service your loan in the allotted time.  You may face court proceedings if you do not repay your loan within the time limit.

What are the items I can apply for when making a loan?
  • School fees (overseas and local)
  • House improvements/renovations and extensions, furniture and fittings
  • House and building materials in rural areas
  • Items for retail or wholesale entertainment (stereo/TV/solar panels etc.)
  • Business license
  • Insurance
  • Tax (road/property etc.)
  • Piece of land
  • Fishing or transport boat
  • Vehicle
  • Medical loan

How much interest does VNPF charge me when I take out a loan?
VNPF charges various interest rates depending on the type of loan you choose. Click here to see which loans are available and their interest rates.

Are there any other fees charged to me when I apply for a loan?
Yes. Application fees are charged at VT 5,000 per loan, and a further VT 2,000 as a guarantee. You can pay this amount in cash when completing your application or it can be charged from your investment account if you do not have cash money at the time of lodging your application.

If I am no longer employed but have savings in the Fund, am I eligible for a loan?
Depending on the funds available in your VNPF accounts, you may be eligible for a loan. Please contact us to find out if you are eligible.
