Voluntary Membership

Picture
Anyone aged 14 and over who is not formally employed is able to register as a Voluntary Member and make contributions into their VNPF savings on a voluntary basis.

Informal sector workers may include farmers and fishermen, drivers, handicraft producers, market vendors and kava bar owners. Seasonal workers may also become Voluntary Members in order to contribute to their VNPF savings rather than to an overseas superannuation fund. As self-employed individuals are not employees and are therefore not obliged to become VNPF members, they have the option to join as Voluntary Members and contribute to their retirement fund on a voluntary basis.

The minimum contribution at any time is VT 1,000 and the maximum contribution is VT 100,000.

Voluntary Members can access the same benefits as regular members as long as they contribute at least VT 1,000 per month, including:
  • Free VNPF account and ID card
  • Annual interest on your savings
  • No fees on your savings
  • Special Death Benefit
  • Access to Direct Loan Services

There are several ways you can make a contribution into your VNPF account:
  • Visit any VNPF branch
  • VNPF Mobile Services bus
  • Vodafone M-Vatu, Digicel MyCash or Vanuatu Post KwikCash
  • Direct bank deposit (click here for details)

To register as a Voluntary Member or a Voluntary Seasonal Worker, click here to access an application form and submit to VNPF with the required documentation. Seasonal workers going to New Zealand are encouraged to register before they leave Vanuatu so that any superannuation collected while they are overseas is deposited directly into their VNPF accounts. If a seasonal worker is already a registered employee with VNPF, they will need to change their status to Voluntary Seasonal Worker.
